Overview

Plumbing that is designed, not improvised on site

Leaking joints, slow drains, low pressure on the top floor and bad smells from traps are common complaints, and most of them come from plumbing that was worked out on site without a plan. Plumbing design fixes the routes, sizes and levels in advance so that water reaches every fixture and waste leaves the building by gravity without blockages.

We prepare water supply layouts for cold and hot water, showing pipe sizes, valves and connections from the overhead tank, pump or pressure system. Drainage layouts show soil, waste and vent pipes, floor traps, gully traps and inspection chambers, with slopes and invert levels to the sewer or septic tank. Tank capacities are worked out from the number of occupants and use.

A key part of the work is coordination. Shaft positions are agreed with the architect, pipe drops are kept clear of beams and columns, and sunken slabs for toilets are shown on the structural drawings. In multi-storey builder floors, stacks are planned so each floor has its own serviceable connections without running pipes through a neighbour's ceiling.

Where needed, the plumbing design also includes connections for rainwater harvesting, a sewage treatment plant, pumps for underground tanks and provisions for water purifiers or softeners. Good practice follows the plumbing provisions of the National Building Code. The drawings give your plumber a clear plan to work to and give you a record of where every concealed pipe runs, which helps with future repairs.

How It Works

Your project in 4 clear steps

  1. 01 Study fixtures and occupancy

We list fixtures floor by floor and estimate water demand for the occupants.

  2. 02 Plan shafts and routes

Shafts, pipe drops and external drain routes are fixed with the architect and structure.

  3. 03 Size and level the system

Pipe sizes, slopes, invert levels, tank sizes and pumps are worked out.

  4. 04 Issue drawings

Layouts and specifications are issued with notes for the plumber and site team.

Questions about plumbing design

Can’t find your answer? Call or WhatsApp us — we reply quickly.

An experienced plumber can install well, but decisions such as shaft positions, sunken slabs, pipe drops through beams and drain levels to the sewer need to be fixed before the structure is built. Plumbing design settles these in advance, so the plumber works to a coordinated plan rather than cutting concrete later.
Tank sizes are based on the number of occupants, the type of building and how often the municipal or borewell supply is available. We also consider firefighting reserve where it is required. The result is stated in the drawings along with the assumptions, so it can be adjusted if your usage is different.
Usually yes. Low pressure is often due to insufficient height between the overhead tank and the top floor fixtures, undersized pipes or too many bends. We can recommend a raised tank, a larger header, or a pressure pump for the affected floors, depending on what is practical for your building.
Yes. For a toilet or kitchen renovation we prepare enlarged plans showing new supply and drain positions, and check whether the existing floor depth allows the required slope. Where the floor cannot be raised or sunk, we suggest workable alternatives before demolition starts.
