Overview

Making limited area work harder

Space planning is about fitting a set of activities into a fixed area as efficiently and comfortably as possible. It matters most where area is expensive or tight: a leased office in Gurugram, a showroom on a busy Delhi market road, a clinic in a Noida commercial complex, a coaching institute on a single floor, or a house on a compact plot where every metre counts.

We start with an area utilisation study. That means listing every function the space must support, the people and equipment involved, how often each area is used and which areas need to sit next to each other. For an office, this might be workstations, cabins, meeting rooms, pantry and storage. For a clinic, it could be reception, waiting, consultation, procedure and sterilisation areas, each with its own flow.

From there we zone the space into public, private and service areas, then test the plan with actual furniture and equipment sizes. Fit tests show whether a meeting room genuinely seats the number of people you need, whether classroom rows leave safe aisles, or whether a showroom display leaves customers enough room to move. We also look ahead, leaving provision for future expansion where the business or family is likely to grow.

Space planning works for new buildings as well as existing premises being fitted out or reorganised, and it feeds directly into interior design, furniture layouts and services planning.

Questions about space planning

Can’t find your answer? Call or WhatsApp us — we reply quickly.

Layout planning usually arranges rooms in a new building, floor by floor. Space planning focuses more closely on how a given area is used: the activities, people, furniture and equipment inside it. It is especially useful for offices, clinics, showrooms and institutions, and for existing premises being reorganised.
Yes, and it is a sensible step. A quick space plan on the landlord drawings or a measured survey shows whether the premises can fit your team, cabins and meeting rooms before you commit. It can also help you compare two or three shortlisted properties on a practical basis.
Yes. We plan around the functional needs of each type of use, such as patient flow in a clinic or safe circulation in a school. Where specific regulatory or licensing requirements apply, we work with the brief and guidance you or your consultants provide, and plan in line with the applicable norms.
Often, yes. Many cramped offices have poorly placed cabins, oversized storage or inefficient circulation. An area utilisation study shows where space is being lost, and a revised plan can recover usable area or improve comfort, sometimes without moving to larger premises.
